California Stars

What a way to begin a day. The AV Club has posted this thoroughly calming and wondrous cover of Woody Guthrie’s “California Stars” by Wilco and Calexico. You have Wilco’s smooth folk-ness and Calexico’s desert-jazzy horns, especially toward the end. Beautifully arranged, beautifully executed. For those in attendance, one of those “moments in time” I’m sure. I first heard this song when Bob Seger did it back in March at the Rose Garden. It definitely had a “hug me while we sway together” feel to it, and his vocals added a husky depth that was memorable as well. An all-around outstanding song.
