Lou Reed (1942-2013)

A man who lived decades longer than he right well should have, the iconic, late-60’s NYC psychedelic pioneer Lou Reed died yesterday at the age of 71.

It’s coming on Halloween anyway, and this is my favorite Velvet Underground song, a dark short story/instrumental jam about a boy who mails himself to his girlfriend. Maybe the coolest thing about it besides the spooky music and unsettling climax is that it’s mixed in such a way that in the left speaker you hear only the music, and in the right speaker you hear only John Cale reciting the story. RIP, Lou.
